Starting the Decade of Action on Road Safety

In collaboration with the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety (GYCRS), YTP hosted a virtual panel discussion on the topic of road safety and what needs to be done in order to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030. The event was facilitated by Maolin Macatangay (YOURS & GYCRS) and featured intriguing insights from our panelists Rob McInerney (iRAP), Wayne Moon (DoT), Alex Herold (DoT) and Grace Willems (RACQ & GYCRS).

Participants of the event heard about various topics such as the shortcomings involved with achieving the 2020 decade of action target, short interim and long term data evaluation, infrastructure evaluation and star ratings, and the importance of the community in road safety conversations. The event ended with a discussion on the actions required in order to achieve the goals for 2030, which included engaging and spreading awareness to the community, providing funding and continuous investment, and understanding that every decision made within a project has life and death injury implications along with it.
